The Avengers: Another Entertaining Marvel Movie
June 27, 2012 | ~2 mins read time.

Avengers Movie PosterI finally got to see The Avengers and I was entertained! Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, a.k.a. Iron Man, was hilarious as usual. Iron Man 3 is looking like it's going to be fun, too. As is Thor 2. I quite enjoyed Chris Hemsworth as Thor in Thor and in The Avengers as the same character. Hawkeye/Clint Barton (played by Jeremy Renner, who has not been in nearly enough things) was good, though we didn't see enough of him and the Hulk/Bruce Banner managed to be good, as well. (I didn't like the comics, the ancient TV show or the subsequent movies, including the most recent one.) Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff (played by Scarlett Johansson) was even tolerable. She wasn't my favourite character in the comics and obviously not in this movie. Iron Man and Thor, however, I read quite often.

At any rate, the movie was pretty entertai... I forgot to mention Captain America, a.k.a. Steve Rogers again, didn't I? We watched the Captain America movie because I like WW II era stuff and we needed something to watch. The character of Captain America, though, was never my favourite. I read maybe 20 issues of the comic. The Captain was far too serious. If one positive thing can be said for Captain America in his own movie and inthe Avengers, Chris Evans has been able to make him less of a stick in the mud, though just barely.

So, The Avengers was pretty entertaining. Loki, played again by Tom Hiddleston, was sufficiently psychotic and deliciously creepy. I have said this before, and I'll likely say it again, they couldn't have picked anyone better to play Nick Fury. Though, I always expect Samuel L. Jackson to cuss more in his roles. I blamePulp Fiction for that.

I read that they're making another Avengers movie and Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 are theoretically going to be released next year. I'm looking forward to all three of them. I'm not a comic book "purist," so this may be why I'm fine with some of the changes that I've seen in the movies vs. the books. I'm also more interested in the characters translating well and they seem to have done that with this movie. I definitely recommend it!
