One of these days, I’ll get around to putting up an IRC/Chat widget for everyone to use if they want to come and chit chat with us. I had a mibbit widget on the site, but it was ugly, didn’t load very well, and while there’s integration into the blog for a mibbit widget it just wasn’t right.
There are two recommended ways to get connected that don’t require installation on the site, though.
First Option: An IRC client of your choice. I use XChat for my chatting needs. The offical option is free if you’re running some sort of *nix operating system and costs $20 for a lifetime license if you’re running Windows. There’s a free version for Windows at silverex and seems to run fine for most people. I use the official version because I really don’t mind paying for software, even if it is open source – software development takes time and time can be considered money in a lot of instances. There are other clients that work well such as mIRC (commercial), ChatZilla (free), and Pidgin (free). Pick one you like and run with it.
Second Option: Mibbit. Free, web based, nothing to download. It isn’t possible to customize it much, but if you don’t care about that then it is probably your easiest option.
For either connection, you need two pieces of information – the server and the channel(s) we can be found in. The server is irc.slaveu.com and the channel that will be the easiest to locate people in is #badgirls (a remnant from an old site/instance of the server that was unrelated to Slave U’s current inception). I am not going to go into how to set up your client for connecting to the chat server here as all of the methods mentioned above have slightly different setups and FAQs devoted to getting you connected in a much more clear and concise manner than I can.
We have full nick services and channel services and you are more than welcome to move your group to our servers in your own channels (chat rooms) if you wish. Check out the Site & Chat Rules for our rules before connecting. Enjoy!
