I was, once again, at a complete loss as to what to read next. I read too fast and sometimes it’s a problem. A friend of mine said that I should check out this Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy. I grabbed the books and started to read them. Three days later, I was finished and thinking about the ideas, the plot, and the overall feel of the books. As someone who has had many dealings with BDSM and the community in which it lives, breathes, and thrives, I found that I was sort of annoyed with some of the ideas presented in these books. Some of us have jokes about “internet dominants” and the character of Christian Grey initially struck me as one. Continue reading

Random Capitalization, Titling, and Made up Words
This is probably going to annoy a bunch of people, especially those who’s “experience” with BDSM is constrained to online dealings and just about nothing else, but I would like to know if anyone has any idea who started the “I/i”, “H/him”, “S/she” nonsense. I think my study of language has me constantly getting annoyed every single time I see this. Continue reading
A Few Comments on Why Feminism is the Anti-Viagra
I read this article on Psychology Today’s website called “Why Feminism is the Anti-Viagra“. Then I read a bunch of blog posts commenting on this blog and… was astonished by the amount of so called feminists confusing sexual dominance/submission and social dominance/submission. The two certainly can go together, but they are slightly different things. Continue reading
I Decided to Take Up Gardening This Year
I have always maintained that vegetables grown in a private garden are usually way better than commercial vegetables. This goes for both organic and non-organic produce. Obviously, the private garden of my choice would be planted and kept up using non-chemical options for fertilization. Continue reading
An Actual Favourable Outlook on BDSM
I came across this article this morning while perusing the news and I was impressed with its mostly correct facts about what BDSM is, how most practitioners are very careful about what each party involved is consenting to, and so on. Continue reading
Why the “Accidental Cougar” Doesn’t Exist
A friend pointed me at this article and it irritated me within moments.
If you’re sick of the “cougar” hype, read on to find out how these two authors are breaking the stereotype down. Compare the “accidental cougar” to the “real cougar” — then draw your own conclusions! Continue reading
BDSM and “Slavery” – Why it Isn’t the Same as Traditional Slavery
The idea of a sexual slave generally brings the idea of people being bought and sold for menial tasks to the minds of most people outside the community. Thoughts of “subhumans” abound, thoughts of any sort of non-consensual use, thoughts of inhumane treatment, and so on. Continue reading
Live Sex Show at Northwestern University!
I like reading news about BDSM and fetish incidents because they usually bring out all sorts of wackos (and I don’t mean the people into the BDSM and fetishes, either).
This one, for instance, is about the noncredit, optional segment Professor John Michael Bailey arranged for following his regular Human Sexuality class. What started out as a question and answer period for students to ask members of the BDSM and fetish community turned into a demonstration on orgasms and toy usage – a live one. Continue reading
Hugh Hefner: Playboy, Activist and Rebel
We sat watching this last night and I was struck, for about the millionth time, at just how much I admire Hugh Hefner. That is probably a very strange thing coming from a woman who’s never entertained the idea of posing in a magazine such as Playboy (even if I had the physique for it). Continue reading
